Hamilton’s blue collar boy bests Drumheller’s Jaydee Bixby

Brian Melo celebrates his win

Hamilton’s got Stelco, one of the first Tim Hortons in the country, the Tiger-Cats and Oskee Wee Wee.

Now they’ve got a Canadian Idol.

Brian Melo, the rocker from Steeltown, bested Jaydee Bixby after over 5 million votes were cast last night.

But the most shocking thing about last night’s live show – which yours truly was seated 10 rows from the stage at – wasn’t that Brian won, but that Bon Jovi stole the show.

The boys from New Jersey commanded the Idol stage while they performed “Lost Highway” and “It’s My Life.” The crowd – chock full of yummy mummies – swayed, screeched and stood on their feet for both tunes; only the announcement that Brian had won, and his final performance of the new Idol single warranted the excitement Bon Jovi created.
