The goal of Sports Card collecting, is to have fun. Which ones should you collect or how much you spend on them is up to you? But here are some of my tips:
Collect cards of your favorite players, the ones you enjoy the most. Or some people even collect cards of the players they like the least or cards of players from their home teams.
You need to decide for yourself how serious you want this hobby to be. Some people are happy buying packs in a store and simply saving whatever they get. Others visit local card dealers and go to shows to buy and trade. There are magazines about cards. Also ask a lot of questions and talk to other collectors.
You have to figure out how much money you are really willing to spend and then do not spend more than your budget. You can shop around and find the best price for the card you want in your collection. Some people pay a lot of attention to the prices in price guide books. These books list how much each card is supposed to be worth, but a lot of times these price lists are too high. More often than not, you will be able to get a card for less.
Try to beware , there are counterfeits out there. They are usually printed on cardboard that is thicker or thinner than the real cards, and often have blurry photos. You probably will not get rich collecting rookie cards, even though some people think that rookie cards will become more valuable after a few years. Remember, only a few rookies go on to become stars! Sidney Crosby is an example of one of them.
