The 2007-08 NHL McDonald’s Hockey Cards where released on November 20, 2007.
This is the third set of McDonald’s hockey cards to come out since Sidney Crosby entered the NHL. Crosby only had one McDonalds hockey card during his rookie season.
There are 2 possible reasons. The first may be that Sidney Crosby wants to keep his name away from products he doesn’t believe in. After all any top performing pro athlete surely doesn’t include fast food in their diet. Crosby does currently endorse some unhealthy products like Pepsi Cola and Lays potato chips.
I tend to believe the reason Sidney Crosby has opted out of the McDonalds hockey cards has to do with him working on a spokesperson deal with a restaurant. If Crosby is not in talks with a restaurant to be a spokesperson, then he may be holding off just in case he does become one in the future. This will allow him to command a higher contract by pointing out that the restaurant would be the first to sign him giving them exclusivity to his endorsement. Just something to think about for the next McDonalds set that comes out and you don’t see a Crosby in there. You know why.
